My suggestion is that you perform maintainance on the high score list periodically, perhaps weekly. If a NAME has multiple entries, retain only the highest of them; move entries up to fill empty slots and set to 0 the bottom ones. So then it will be easier for newcomers to get on the list.

Now I'm thinking the software should do it. What I'd love to see in Cetris is a system of just one high score per name... and I can suggest how to implement it: instead of asking for one's name, allow
NAME ,password
denoting it optional by rendering it so. Only the highest score per name is maintained. Anyone can score higher and claim your name unless you've opted to password protect it. If the new score is too low to qualify for posting, then the existing entry of same name really must be color HIGHLIGHTED, so that the player sees confirmation of his/her submission.
